Astronomical observation spot to view the starry sky in Oshidomari, Rishiri Island
The Oshidomari district at the northern tip of Rishiri Island has extremely minimal light pollution and is one of Japan's finest starry sky spots where the Milky Way is clearly visible to the naked eye. At a small observatory operated by local astronomy enthusiasts, you can view the striped patterns of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn through telescopes. The contrast between the silhouette of Rishiri Mountain and the shower of stars above is breathtakingly beautiful.
