World Heritage Tour of Sakai and Mozu Kofun Group
堺市, Osaka
Tour the World Heritage Mozu Kofun Group and unravel the mysteries of ancient giant keyhole-shaped burial mounds
The Mozu Kofun Group was registered as a World Heritage site in 2019 and is an ancient burial mound group centered around Japan's largest keyhole-shaped tumuli, Emperor Nintoku's Mausoleum, with 44 mounds still standing today. The Sakai City Museum's VR theater offers aerial views of the kofun group, and renting bicycles to tour each mound allows visitors to experience their true scale. The half-day course combining historical learning at the Mozu Kofun Group Visitor Center is particularly popular.
