Sakai World Heritage Ancient Tomb Walk
Historic walking tour of the World Heritage Mozu Kofun Group with volunteer guides
The Mozu Kofun Group in Sakai City was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2019 and is an area where giant ancient tombs from the 5th century cluster. Starting with the Nintoku Emperor Tomb, Japan's largest keyhole-shaped mound, approximately 40 ancient tombs are scattered throughout the urban area. The volunteer-guided walking tour allows you to learn about ancient clans and burial culture while experiencing the scale of the tombs. The comprehensive program includes viewing excavated artifacts at Sakai City Museum and a tea time with tomb-shaped cake.
