Awamori Distillery Tour
Awamori, Japan's oldest distilled spirit with 600 years of history. Enjoy factory tours and tastings of this unique Okinawan spirit at distilleries in Shuri.
Awamori is Japan's oldest distilled spirit with approximately 600 years of history, made using Thai rice and black koji mold—Okinawa's distinctive spirit. Historic distilleries such as Zuisen Syuzo and Sakimoto Syuzo are scattered throughout the Shuri district, where factory tours let you learn about the Awamori manufacturing process while enjoying tastings. Koshu (aged liquor) aged for three or more years is characterized by its mellow flavor and rich aroma, with its value increasing over time. There is also a service to deposit your own aged liquor in earthenware jars, allowing you to experience the depth of Awamori culture.
