Yoshino Washi Plant Dyeing Experience

Yoshino Town is known as a center for Yoshino washi production, and washi studios here offer plant dyeing experience workshops. Using plants native to the mountains of Yoshino—such as madder, indigo, and chestnut burs—hand-made washi is dyed. Natural colors have a gentle, warm quality, and the beauty of plant dyeing lies in how the same plant produces different shades depending on the season. Your creation will be completed in about 90 minutes and can be finished as a postcard or small container.
