Sakurai's Hand-Stretched Miwa Sōmen Workshop
Workshop experience to observe the manufacturing process of hand-stretched sōmen and sample the noodles in Miwa, the birthplace of sōmen
The Miwa district of Sakurai City is known as the birthplace of sōmen, and Miwa sōmen is counted as one of Japan's three greatest sōmen. In the hand-stretched sōmen workshop, you can observe the traditional method of stretching wheat flour dough multiple times and finishing it as thin noodles. The technique where skilled craftspeople stretch the dough on chopsticks is called 'sun-drying,' and the sight of white noodles drying in the sun during the cold winter season is a picturesque sight. After the tour, you can sample freshly made sōmen and be amazed by the difference in texture.
