Murouji Temple: Hydrangea Stone Steps
宇陀市, Nara
Hydrangeas adorning the long stone steps of Murouji Temple, known as the 'Women's Koyasan'
Murouji Temple, known as the 'Women's Koyasan,' is an ancient Shingon temple that opened its doors to women, in contrast to Mount Koya where women's pilgrimage was not permitted. During the rainy season, approximately 3,000 hydrangeas adorn the long stone steps of the approach path, and the collaboration between the national treasure five-storied pagoda and the hydrangeas creates a beauty like a painting. The moss-covered stone steps and hydrangeas drenched in rain evoke the refined beauty of Japan.
