The Nagasaki Lantern Festival is a winter tradition of Nagasaki that celebrates China's Lunar New Year (Spring Festival). Centered on Shinchi Chinatown and extending to the Hamacho area and around Megane Bridge, approximately 15,000 vibrantly colored lanterns and various objects are displayed, wrapping the entire town in fantastical light. Stage events are also abundant, including dragon dances, Chinese lion dances, and erhu performances. In Chinatown, special menu gourmet food stalls line up, and visitors can enjoy street food. During the approximately 2-week period, about 1 million people visit, making it a representative winter event of Kyushu.
