Terraced Rice Fields and Moon-Viewing Spot in Chikuma and Oiyama
Terraced Rice Fields of Oiyama and Spectacular Views of Zenkoji Plain, Selected as One of Japan's Three Greatest Train Window Views
The Oiyama area of Chikuma City is a scenic spot long celebrated in waka poetry as a famous moon-viewing location. The terraced rice fields spreading across the hillside were selected as one of Japan's Hundred Best Terraced Rice Fields, and the 'moon in each paddy,' where moonlight reflects in the early summer rice paddies, is especially enchanting. The view of Zenkoji Plain from JR Oiyama Station is counted as one of Japan's Three Greatest Train Window Views, and it is also known as a beautiful night-view spot. The golden color of the autumn rice plants is also magnificent.
