Monbetsu Okhotsk Tower Underwater Observation
Observe the underwater world beneath the drift ice at Monbetsu Okhotsk Tower, installed on the seabed
The Okhotsk Tower, installed off Monbetsu Port, is a rare facility in the world where you can directly observe the waters of the Okhotsk Sea through windows on the seabed floor. During the winter drift ice season, you can observe marine life such as Clione swimming beneath the drift ice. From the observation room on the 3rd floor, you can see a spectacular view of drift ice plains stretching across the horizon. In summer, you can also observe plankton and schools of fish underwater, making it an educational spot where you can experience the seasonal changes of the sea.
