Takachiho Shrine in Takachiho Town, Miyazaki Prefecture holds a one-hour nighttime Kagura performance every evening starting at 20:00. Four pieces are dedicated: the 'Dance of Tajikao,' 'Dance of Uzume,' 'Dance of Totori,' and 'Dance of the Deity's Form,' all based on the mythology of Amaterasu Ōmikami's hiding in the rock cave, bringing the mythological world to life before your eyes. The powerful dances and solemn atmosphere illuminated by bonfires on the stage offer a moving time to touch the very origins of Japanese spiritual culture.
