Ama no Iwato is the mythological stage where eight million gods gathered and consulted when Amaterasu Oomikami hid in the sacred cave. In the cave deep within Iwato Shrine, countless stones stacked by visitors create a mystical landscape. Reached in about 10 minutes by walking along the promenade beside the Iwato River, it's popular as part of a mythological tour of Takachiho, often paired with Takachiho Gorge.
