Toogatta Onsen in Zao Town, Miyagi Prefecture is the birthplace of traditional kokeshi. At a kokeshi artisan's workshop, you can experience painting kokeshi dolls that have been turned on a lathe. The artisan will teach you brush techniques and painting methods, and you'll create your own distinctive kokeshi. It's a wonderful activity to enjoy alongside exploring the hot spring town.
