Evening View of Godaido Hall at Matsushima
The evening view from Godaido Hall at Matsushima, one of Japan's Three Great Sights, is truly exceptional. The islands' silhouettes are tinged in deep crimson, creating a dreamlike sight.
Godaido Hall at Matsushima is said to have been founded in 807 by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro and stands on a small island jutting out into Matsushima Bay. At dusk, the islands of Matsushima Bay are tinged in deep crimson, and combined with the silhouette of Godaido Hall, create a dreamlike landscape. The approach to the hall, crossing the latticed bridge, also has an elegant charm. The special opening held once every 33 years is particularly crowded with worshippers. It is recommended to stay until dusk while enjoying daytime sightseeing boat tours.
