Create your own original sacred rope decoration by twisting rice straw at the foot of Ise Shrine
Workshops are held in Ise City toward the year-end for handmaking sacred rope decorations. Ise has a tradition of displaying sacred ropes year-round called 'Shomon,' and you can learn from local artisans how to twist rice straw and arrange decorations. A full-fledged sacred rope decoration is completed in about 2 hours, and ornaments like citrus and fern fronds can also be customized to your preference. You can experience Japanese New Year culture in the sacred atmosphere of Ise.
