Matsumae Castle Mountain Garden

Matsumae Town, where Hokkaido's only Japanese-style castle remains. Hidden quietly on the back side of Matsumae Castle, Shiroyama Garden is a restoration of a garden that was once attached to a samurai residence from the Matsumae Clan era. This garden, featuring both karesansui (dry landscape) and pond stroll-style elements characteristic of the northern region, is a hidden gem away from the crowds of Matsumae Park, known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. The autumn foliage is also magnificent.
