Tofuku-ji's Tsutenkyo Bridge and Autumn Leaves Valley
Breathtaking scenery of Sengyokukan seen from Tsutenkyo Bridge at Tofuku-ji, Kyoto's most renowned autumn foliage destination
Tofuku-ji is one of the Kyoto Gozan (five major Zen temples) and is the most famous temple for its autumn foliage. Tsutenkyo is a bridge spanning a valley called Sengyokukan, and the maple leaves of approximately 2,000 trees seen from above the bridge are breathtakingly beautiful. The landscape of red, orange, and yellow foliage filling the valley is also called a 'brocade sea of clouds.' The Hojo Garden is famous for its checkerboard moss garden designed by Shigemori Mirei, offering a sense of modern aesthetics.
