Nijo Castle Garden and Tea Room
Stroll through the Ninomaru Garden of UNESCO World Heritage Nijo Castle and enjoy matcha tea in the castle's tea room
The UNESCO World Heritage Former Imperial Villa Nijo Castle was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu as his residence in Kyoto. The wall paintings of the National Treasure Ninomaru Palace and the renowned 'nightingale floor' are must-sees, but the exceptional beauty of the Ninomaru Garden, said to have been designed by the master garden designer Kobori Enshu, is equally captivating. After strolling through this pond stroll garden, enjoying matcha and Japanese sweets in the castle's tea room is a moment of pure luxury. During spring cherry blossom season and autumn maple leaf season, illumination events are held, allowing visitors to experience the castle's magical appearance, distinctly different from its daytime view.
