Shijo-Kawaramachi is Kyoto's shopping hub. Spreading out from the intersection of Kawaramachi-dori and Shijo-dori are numerous areas with Kyoto-exclusive sweets shops, Japanese craft goods select shops, Kyoto cosmetics, matcha specialty shops, kimono accessories shops, and other items unique to Kyoto. The covered shopping streets of Shin-Kyogoku-dori and Teramachi-dori also feature long-established Japanese confectionery shops and hand-towel specialty shops, making it perfect for souvenir hunting. The Kyoto-exclusive items at department stores (Takashimaya and Daimaru) are also must-sees.
