Kure Navy Curry and Nikujaga
Navy curry and nikujaga born in Kure, the former naval town. Specialty cuisine that recreates historic flavors.
Kure City is a naval port town where the Imperial Japanese Navy's naval base was established, and navy-derived cuisine is a specialty. Navy curry faithfully recreates the curry that was adopted as nutritional food in the navy during the Meiji era, and is served at over 20 shops throughout the city. It is also known as the birthplace of nikujaga, which is said to have been created when Heihachiro Togo attempted to recreate British beef stew, with each shop serving their own original recipe. It's recommended to enjoy these historic flavors after visiting the Yamato Museum.
