Shopping in Kumamoto Kamituri and Shimotsuji

Kumamoto City's Kamituri and Shimotsuji shopping streets, combined, span approximately 1km, making them among Kyushu's finest arcade shopping streets. A diverse array of stores line the streets, from fashion boutiques and drugstores to cafes and long-established local shops. Kumamon goods specialty stores feature the prefecture's PR character Kumamon's limited merchandise, which is hugely popular. Shops also carry traditional crafts such as Higo zogan and Yamaga lanterns, where you can find distinctly Kumamoto souvenirs. Famous local sweets like mustard lotus root and jin-taiko can also be purchased inside the arcade.
