Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark

Located at the eastern tip of Kochi Prefecture, Cape Muroto is a magnificent geological heritage site that was certified as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2011. You can observe up close the unique rock formations created by the uplift of seafloor strata from approximately 50 million years ago, as well as spectacular turbidite (turbidity current deposit) outcrops. Along the walking paths, subtropical vegetation flourishes, creating a distinctive landscape. The view of the Pacific Ocean from Cape Muroto Lighthouse is also breathtaking. The Muroto Global Geopark Center offers guided tours, making it a popular educational destination where visitors can experience the history of the Earth.
