Old Tokaido History Walk in Oiso Post Town
Walk through the post town of Oiso on the old Tokaido, touring the pine tree-lined avenue and villas of Meiji-era politicians
Oiso flourished as the eighth post town of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido, and the pine tree-lined avenue along the old road remains today. From the Meiji era onwards, it was also known as a villa area for successive prime ministers such as Hirobumi Ito and Shigeru Yoshida, and the former Yoshida Shigeru residence is open to the public. The Terugazaki Coast near Oiso Long Beach is famous as a landing site for green pigeons, making it a walking course where you can enjoy both history and nature.
