Kamakura Meigetsu-in Hydrangea Corridor
Blue hydrangeas blanket the approach of Meigetsu-in, affectionately known as 'Hydrangea Temple,' creating a spectacular rainy-season view
Meigetsu-in in Kita-Kamakura is affectionately known as 'Hydrangea Temple.' In June, approximately 2,500 dwarf hydrangeas called 'Meigetsu-in Blue' blanket both sides of the approach. The breathtakingly beautiful gradient of hydrangeas ranges from pale blue to deep indigo with subtly different shades. The inner garden view glimpsed through the round 'Window of Enlightenment' in the main hall is equally photogenic. This celebrated Kamakura spot, which makes you forget the dreariness of the rainy season, is best visited on rainy days.
