Hakone Owakudani is an explosion crater formed by a volcanic eruption approximately 3,000 years ago, where white volcanic steam still rises today in an impressive landscape. The 'black eggs' made here are a specialty that turns pitch black due to hydrogen sulfide and iron from the hot springs adhering to the shells. According to legend, eating one extends your lifespan by seven years.
