Enoshima Iwaya Cave Exploration
藤沢市, Kanagawa
Explore the mysterious sea caves in the deepest part of Enoshima with a candle in hand
The Iwaya Cave in the deepest part of Enoshima is a historic spot said to have been visited by Kobo Daishi and Minamoto no Yoritomo. There are two caves—the First Iwaya (152m deep) and Second Iwaya (56m deep)—where you can experience the thrill of exploration by candlelight. Walk across rocks where waves crash, encountering Buddhist statues and dragon deity legends within the cave in a mystical experience. From the rocky shore before the cave, a magnificent Pacific view spreads out, and on clear days, Mt. Fuji is visible.
