Kamishihoro's Mimata Sansō and Former Mimata Settlement Ruins
Ruins of the former Mimata settlement deep in the mountains of Kamishihoro Town, where a thousand people once lived
On the east side of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range, the Mimata district deep in Kamishihoro Town's mountains was once home to approximately a thousand people. This village, which flourished through forestry, is now a place of quiet solitude with nearly no residents. At the sole remaining Mimata Sansō Café, surrounded by primeval forest, visitors can enjoy coffee in an extraordinary space removed from the everyday. Landscapes where time seems to have stopped stretch across the area—including the bridge structures of the former National Railways Shihoro Line and the ruins of abandoned schools.
