Chiran Samurai Residence Gardens

Chiran is a castle town known as 'Satsuma's Little Kyoto' and is designated as a National Important Traditional Building Preservation District. Along the approximately 700-meter samurai residence street, 7 gardens are open to the public where you can appreciate beautiful Japanese gardens incorporating dry landscape gardens and borrowed scenery. The living fences with stone walls and imposing gates are precious spots that evoke the samurai lifestyle of bygone days.
