Lake Kutcharo in Hamatomanbetsu Town is a precious wetland registered under the Ramsar Convention. Every spring and autumn, it serves as a stopover for whooper swans migrating between Siberia and Japan. At peak times, thousands of swans gather on the lake's surface, creating a magnificent spectacle. The lakeside waterfowl observation center offers binoculars for rent, allowing you to leisurely enjoy birdwatching. At dusk, the orange sky reflected on the lake and the flocks of swans create a breathtakingly beautiful sight.
