A spectacular sight of 800,000 ancient murrelets returning to their burrows at dusk on Teuri Island, a remote island in the Japan Sea
Teuri Island off the coast of Haboro is the world's largest ancient murrelet breeding colony with approximately 800,000 birds. From June to July at dusk, the awe-inspiring sight of massive flocks of ancient murrelets returning to their nests all at once from the sea fills the sky. With a guide, visitors can observe parent birds carrying food to their chicks in the burrow areas up close. Island hopping to nearby Yagishiri Island is also recommended.
