Kiryu Weaving Experience Workshop
Authentic weaving experience using hand looms in Kiryu, which has a 1300-year history of textile production
Kiryu City is a textile production area continuing from the Nara period and is called the 'Textile Capital'. At the experience workshop in the city, you can weave your own coasters and stoles using traditional hand looms. The process of combining warp and weft to create patterns is meditative, and the finished works can be taken home as is. The atmosphere of the studio, renovated from a sawtooth-roofed factory, is wonderful, and when combined with visits to the modern industrial heritage sites, you can appreciate the depth of Kiryu's textile culture.
