The Shirakawa-go Light-up held every weekend in January and February is a winter tradition that draws tourists from around the world. The gassho-zukuri thatched roofs covered in snow are illuminated with warm light, creating a fantastical scene as if you've stepped into a picture book. Advance reservation is required, and the panoramic view from the Shiroyama Tenshukaku observation deck is the most popular photography spot. During the event period, you can also enjoy local doburoku and kenchin-jiru.
