Gujo Hachiman: Stroll Through a Water Town
Explore water boats and spring water in a castle town where the clear Yoshida River flows
Gujo Hachiman is a water town where the Yoshida River, a tributary of the Nagara River, flows through the center of the town. With spring water welling up throughout the area, the 'water boats' used for daily water supply convey a unique water culture to this day. Sogi Water is the first selection of Japan's Hundred Famous Waters, and walking along cobblestone paths while visiting the various water spots scattered throughout the town is deeply soothing. The sight of children diving from bridges into the river is also a cherished summer tradition.
