Aizu Traditional Japanese Candle Night

At the traditional Japanese candle workshop in Aizuwakamatsu City, you can experience hand-crafting traditional Japanese candles using wax extracted from lacquer fruit. The delicate work of layering wax repeatedly onto the wick has a meditative comfort to it. Your completed candles can also be lit during candle night events at Tsuruga Castle and Oyakuen. The warmth of the flickering flame is something you cannot feel with LED lighting—it is the origin of Japanese light.
