A precious experience participating in early morning services at Eiheiji, the head temple of Soto Zen Buddhism
Eiheiji is the head temple of Soto Zen Buddhism founded by Dogen Zenji in 1244, where approximately 150 training monks currently live a strict monastic life. If you stay at the temple lodging, you can participate in the morning services beginning at 4 a.m., and experience the solemn atmosphere of sutra chanting resonating through the main hall. The corridors connecting the Seven Main Buildings showcase magnificent architectural beauty, and the temple grounds surrounded by deep cedar groves are filled with sacred atmosphere.
