Ancient Okhotsk Culture Archaeological Site in Esashi Town Overlooking the Okhotsk Sea
The Kamiyama Ruins in Esashi Town, located in the Soya Subprefecture, are a precious historic site that preserves the remains of dwellings from the Okhotsk culture approximately 1,000 years ago. Reconstructed pit dwellings stand on an elevated area overlooking the sea, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of ancient life. The town's local history museum displays excavated artifacts that reveal the trade routes of northern peoples. With few visitors, one can peacefully experience the history here.
