Ōzu Hijikawa Cormorant Fishing Viewing
Experience Ehime's traditional cormorant fishing on the Hijikawa River in Ōzu - watch this summer spectacle up close from a covered boat
Ōzu's cormorant fishing performed on the Hijikawa River is one of Ehime Prefecture's signature summer attractions. From June through September, cormorant boats lit with bonfires illuminate the river's surface, where master cormorant fishermen skillfully control their birds to catch ayu (sweetfish) using this traditional method. Guests can experience the spectacle from a covered boat while enjoying local cuisine served aboard. The fantastical glow of the bonfires and the flickering reflections on the water create an unforgettable summer night scene.
