Ashoro's Giant Butterbur Colony

The Giant Butterbur (Rawanbuki) that grows naturally in the Rarowan District of Ashoro Town is Japan's largest butterbur, reaching heights of 2-3 meters. It reaches its peak season from late June through July, offering a wondrous experience of walking through a tunnel of giant butterbur so tall you must look up. Once called 'the umbrella of Koropokkur,' it is a legendary plant. The adjacent Ashoro Museum of Paleontology also allows you to see Ashoroa fossils. This is a spot where you can truly experience the power of Hokkaido's land.
