Tsugaru lacquerware is a traditional craft created by repeatedly layering lacquer dozens of times and polishing to reveal the patterns. At a workshop in Hirosaki City, there is a program where you can experience the final stage of polishing. As you carefully polish the lacquer surface with a whetstone, the beautiful patterns of Karatotsu and Nanako-nuri emerge. The chopsticks you finish become a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
