The Hirosaki Neputa Festival is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan and is characterized by fan-shaped Neputa lanterns and powerful festival music. At experience facilities in Hirosaki City, visitors can receive direct instruction from local hayashi masters in playing the taiko drums and side flutes used in the festival. Striking the drum to the chant of 'Ya-Ya-Do!' is a precious opportunity to feel the excitement of the festival firsthand. Combined with a Neputa lantern painting experience, you can develop a deeper understanding of Tsugaru festival culture.
