Katagami Namahage Mask Carving Experience

At a workshop in Katagami City, Akita Prefecture, you can experience carving a Namahage mask from wood. Local mask craftsmen provide careful guidance, and even beginners can complete a small miniature mask in half a day. Shaving paulownia wood with a chisel to create the mask's expressions requires concentration, but the sense of accomplishment when completed is exceptional. You can also paint it and take it home.
