Kakunodate Weeping Cherry Blossom Avenue
Weeping cherry blossoms that adorn the samurai mansion street in Kakunodate, known as the Little Kyoto of Michinoku. The breathtaking spring landscape woven by 400 cherry blossoms is spectacular.
Kakunodate is a castle town known as the Little Kyoto of Michinoku, with approximately 400 weeping cherry trees lining the samurai mansion street. Legend has it that these cherry blossoms were brought by a princess who married from Kyoto. Designated as a National Natural Monument, they bloom spectacularly each year from late April to early May. The contrast between the black-walled samurai mansions and the pale pink weeping cherry blossoms represents one of Japan's most iconic spring landscapes. The Somei Yoshino cherry tree avenue along the Higikinai River can also be enjoyed together.
