Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens is one of Japan's leading zoos, breeding approximately 450 species of animals. Weekend-only kids programs feature interactions with goats and guinea pigs, elephant feeding observations, animal keeper job experiences, and other events where children can deeply learn about animals. Popular guided tours of the handsome gorilla "Shabani" are available, and at Night Zoo (summer only), you can observe the active behavior of nocturnal animals. Exploring the greenhouses in the botanical garden area is also popular with children.
