Yomitan's Yachimun village is a major hub of Okinawan ceramics, home to 19 workshops including kilns that carry on the legacy of Living National Treasure Kinjo Jiro. Centered around red-tiled climbing kilns, workshops and galleries of each kiln are scattered throughout. The appeal lies in being able to purchase directly from artists while hearing about their works. From traditional fish motifs and arabesque patterns to modern designs, a diverse collection of pieces are available—you're sure to find a favorite to brighten your dining table. The pottery market held twice yearly is a popular event that draws many enthusiastic fans.
