Yamagata Prefecture's Tendo City produces 95% of Japan's shogi pieces and is known as the 'City of Shogi.' At the Tendo City Shogi Museum, you can learn in detail about the history of shogi and the manufacturing process of shogi pieces. The exhibitions also introduce shogi-like games from around the world, with interesting comparisons to chess and xiangqi. In the shogi piece calligraphy experience, you can write characters on shogi pieces under the guidance of craftspeople. Every April on Maizuru Mountain where cherry blossoms bloom, Human Shogi is held, featuring the spectacular sight of people in armor serving as shogi pieces.
