Ura-Bandai Goshiki-numa
A mysterious group of lakes and ponds born from the eruption of Mount Bandai. Tour ponds shining in cobalt blue and emerald green.
Ura-Bandai's Goshiki-numa is the collective name for over 30 large and small lakes and ponds born from the 1888 eruption of Mount Bandai. Due to differences in mineral content such as iron and manganese, they display different colors—the cobalt blue of Bishamonuma, the reddish-brown of Akanum, the emerald green of Bentennuma, and so on. The approximately 3.6 km Goshiki-numa Nature Trail is an easy trekking course with little elevation change, walkable in about 1.5 hours. During the autumn foliage season, the contrast between the pond colors and the red leaves is stunning, making it a popular spot for photography.
