Unzen Jigoku
A hot spring resort nestled in a geothermal area enveloped in sulfur scent. An iconic area of Unzen hot spring, renowned for its specialty hot spring eggs.
Unzen Jigoku is a geothermal area located at the heart of Unzen hot spring, where approximately 30 hells such as Daikokukkan Jigoku and Oito Jigoku are scattered throughout. As you walk along the trails where white steam rises and sulfur scent drifts, you can feel the Earth's energy with your senses. Hot spring eggs steamed by the geothermal vapor are a classic souvenir. The surrounding Unzen hot spring is a historic thermal resort designated as Japan's first national park, and flourished as a summer retreat for foreigners during the Meiji era. Autumn foliage season offers particularly stunning scenery.
