Aizumi Town History Museum Indigo House
A facility where you can learn the history of Awa indigo and experience indigo dyeing. You can take home a one-of-a-kind indigo-dyed souvenir created by you.
Tokushima has long been a major indigo production center, and 'Awa indigo' has supported Japan's indigo dyeing culture. At Indigo House, you can learn about the history of Awa indigo through exhibits featuring a mansion from the feudal domain period that belonged to indigo merchants. You can also experience indigo dyeing firsthand. When you dip handkerchiefs, stoles, T-shirts, and other items into natural indigo dye, the patterns and color intensity change depending on your tie-dyeing technique and the number of times you dip them, creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The beautiful indigo color, also known as Japan Blue, is perfect as a travel memory.
