Takeo Onsen is a renowned hot spring in Saga with a history of approximately 1,300 years. The vermillion-colored gate tower created by Tatsuno Kingo, designer of Tokyo Station, is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The weakly alkaline simple hot spring is gentle on the skin and is said to be effective for fatigue recovery and beautiful skin. Historic bathhouses within the gate tower, including Motoyu, Houraisen, and Tonosama baths, remain in active use, and day visits are available at reasonable rates. The nearby Takeo City Library, which features an attached Starbucks, has become a notable stylish destination and can be enjoyed in conjunction with a visit to the hot spring.
