Shisa Coloring Experience
An experience workshop where you paint colors of your choice on the Shisa, Okinawa's guardian deity, to create a one-of-a-kind original work.
Shisa are guardian deities displayed on the roofs and gates of Okinawan houses. Within Naha City, there are numerous workshops where you can experience coloring Shisa or handmaking them. The experience of freely painting unglazed Shisa with acrylic paint is a popular activity enjoyed by everyone from children to adults. It's completed in about an hour and can be taken home the same day, which is a delightful point. If you make a pair, it becomes a couple's memento; if your family makes them, they're perfect as travel souvenirs. Some workshops around Kokusai Dori also offer courses where you can start from making Shisa.
